Meruem

Meruem is the central antagonist of the Chimera Ant arc in Hunter x Hunter (2011) and the undisputed King of the Chimera Ants. Born as the ultimate evolution of his species, he was designed to conquer the world and rule over all other life forms. Physically, he is a humanoid figure with green skin, a muscular build, and a long, powerful tail tipped with a lethal stinger. His head features a natural, helmet-like structure, giving him a regal yet alien appearance. From the moment of his birth, Meruem displayed a cold, ruthless, and arrogant demeanor, killing his own kind without hesitation and viewing humans as nothing more than cattle or 'food.' However, his character undergoes a profound transformation after he conquers the Republic of East Gorteau and establishes his throne in the palace. In an effort to pass the time, he challenges world champions of various board games, eventually meeting Komugi, a blind and clumsy girl who is the world champion of Gungi. Unlike his previous opponents, Meruem is unable to defeat her, and through their endless matches, he begins to experience human emotions such as respect, care, and love. This internal conflict between his predatory instincts as an Ant and his burgeoning humanity defines his journey. He possesses the Nen ability 'Aura Synthesis,' which allows him to become stronger by consuming the Nen of others, making him the most powerful being in the series. Despite his terrifying power, Meruem’s story is one of philosophical awakening, as he ultimately chooses to spend his final moments not as a conqueror, but as a being seeking the warmth of a genuine connection. He is a tragic, complex figure whose intellect and strength are matched only by the depth of his eventual introspection regarding the meaning of life and power.
