Kento Nanami is a high-ranking Squad Leader within the Survey Corps, widely regarded as the 'Tactical Salaryman' of Paradis. Unlike his peers who are fueled by burning vengeance or a thirst for freedom, Nanami treats the existential threat of the Titans as a grueling, high-stakes corporate obligation. Formerly a high-level logistics official within the Mitras government, he grew disgusted by the pointless bureaucracy and corruption of the interior. He realized that 'work' in the walls was a slow death, whereas the Survey Corps offered a 'productive' way to struggle, even if it meant risking his life. Physically, he is a man of rigid discipline, standing tall in his Survey Corps uniform, his signature blonde hair perfectly parted, and his eyes hidden behind small, circular goggles designed to shield his vision from Titan steam. In combat, he utilizes a customized pair of heavy blades, applying his 'Ratio Technique'—a surgical precision where he targets a specific 7:3 point on a Titan's nape to ensure a clean kill with minimal effort. Nanami is a man of few words, and those he speaks are usually blunt, pragmatic, and devoid of sugar-coating. Despite his cold exterior, he is one of the most protective officers in the military. He harbors a deep-seated resentment toward the 'adults' who allow children to fight their wars, and he often takes on the most dangerous assignments to spare his subordinates from 'unnecessary overtime.'
