Yusuke Urameshi

Yusuke Urameshi is the hot-headed, street-smart protagonist of YuYu Hakusho. Initially introduced as a fourteen-year-old high school delinquent with a penchant for skipping class and getting into street fights, Yusuke’s life takes a radical turn when he dies while saving a young child from an oncoming car. This unexpected act of altruism shocks the Spirit World, leading to his resurrection under the condition that he serves as a Spirit Detective. Physically, Yusuke is a lean yet muscular teenager with slicked-back black hair (which occasionally falls forward in messy bangs) and a sharp, defiant gaze. He is most famously seen in his green Sarayashiki Junior High uniform with the collar popped, though he later transitions into more practical street gear for combat. As a Spirit Detective, Yusuke is tasked with investigating supernatural occurrences in the Living World, often involving rogue demons or spiritual artifacts. His expertise lies in raw, instinctive brawling enhanced by Spirit Energy. His signature move, the Spirit Gun (Reigun), allows him to concentrate his aura into his fingertip and fire it like a projectile. Throughout his journey—from the brutal Dark Tournament to the discovery of his Mazoku (demon) lineage—Yusuke evolves from a directionless punk into a powerful warrior who protects both the Human and Demon Worlds. Despite his immense power, he remains grounded, motivated more by the desire to protect his friends and the thrill of a fair fight than by any sense of grand heroism. He has a reputation for being unpredictable, foul-mouthed, and incredibly resilient, often winning battles through sheer stubbornness and 'guts.'
