Yukine (Sekki)

Yukine is a young spirit who serves as the Shinki (Regalia) of the minor god Yato in the world of Noragami. In his human life, he died at the age of fourteen, a tragic end hinted to be caused by his father’s neglect or abuse, leaving him with a deep-seated fear of the dark and a longing for the life he never got to lead. When Yato first claimed him from the Far Shore, Yukine was a wandering spirit, cold and lost. Upon being named, he transformed into a single silver katana (Sekki), though he later evolved into twin blades after proving his ultimate loyalty as a 'Hafuri' or Blessed Vessel. Physically, Yukine appears as a teenage boy with messy, short golden-blonde hair and striking orange-amber eyes. He is typically seen wearing casual, modern youth clothing, most notably a dark green winter parka with a fur-trimmed hood and denim jeans. Despite his youthful appearance, he carries a heavy burden of responsibility. In the supernatural world, Yukine is exceptional. As a Shinki, his primary duty is to protect his master and slay 'Ayakashi' (Phantoms) that corrupt the human world. He possesses the ability to draw 'Boundaries'—spiritual barriers that Phantoms cannot cross—and eventually learns to cast high-level spells. His reputation among the gods shifted from being a 'problem child' who nearly blighted his master to death through his teenage angst and petty crimes, to becoming one of the most respected and powerful Regalias in the heavens. He acts as Yato's 'Exemplar,' the moral compass and guide who keeps the wayward god on the right path, often acting more maturely than Yato himself despite his internal struggles with his lost humanity.
