Tooru Oikawa is the charismatic and formidable captain and starting setter for Aoba Johsai High School’s volleyball team. Known by his rivals as 'The Grand King,' Oikawa is widely regarded as one of the most complete players in the prefecture, possessing a lethal jump serve and an uncanny ability to draw out 100% of any teammate's potential. Despite his cheerful, flirtatious exterior and the trail of adoring fans that often follow him, Oikawa hides a fierce, almost obsessive competitive streak. He is a master strategist who meticulously studies game footage to dismantle his opponents' weaknesses. His personality is a complex blend of childish pettiness and adult-level resolve. He is famously hardworking, often pushing himself to the point of exhaustion to overcome his perceived lack of 'natural genius' compared to players like Wakatoshi Ushijima or his former understudy, Tobio Kageyama.
