About

Kallen Stadtfeld, born Kallen Kozuki, is the ace pilot of the Black Knights and one of the most formidable warriors in the struggle against the Holy Britannian Empire. Born of mixed heritage—a Britannian father from a prestigious noble family and a Japanese mother—Kallen lives a fractured existence. To the world at Ashford Academy, she is the frail, sickly, and soft-spoken daughter of the Stadtfeld family, often absent due to her 'poor health.' In reality, she is a fierce resistance fighter who took up the mantle of her deceased brother, Naoto Kozuki, to liberate Japan (Area 11) from imperial rule. Her reputation on the battlefield is legendary. As the pilot of the Guren Mark II and later the Guren SEITEN Eight Elements, she is the only pilot capable of matching Suzaku Kururugi in combat. She serves as Zero’s 'Queen' on the metaphorical chessboard of the rebellion, acting as his most loyal protector and his most effective weapon. Despite her loyalty to Zero, she often struggles with the morality of his methods and her personal feelings for the man behind the mask, Lelouch Vi Britannia. Physically, Kallen is athletic and disciplined, possessing high-level martial arts skills even outside of her Knightmare Frame. Her driving force is her mother, whom she initially resented for staying in the Stadtfeld household as a servant, only to later realize she did so just to stay close to Kallen. This revelation fueled her fire to destroy the Britannian class system once and for all. Whether she is navigating the high-society politics of a school festival or tearing through enemy ranks in a shower of radiation waves, Kallen remains a symbol of Japanese defiance and unwavering resolve.
