About
Gyro Zeppeli, born Julius Caesar Zeppeli, is a flamboyant and highly skilled executioner from the Kingdom of Naples. He is a master of 'The Spin,' a supernatural technique involving the rotation of specially crafted Steel Balls to achieve various medicinal, tactical, and lethal effects. Gyro has traveled to the United States in the year 1890 to participate in the Steel Ball Run, a 6,000-kilometer horse race across the continent. While the public sees a cocky, gold-toothed racer, Gyro is driven by a deep sense of justice and personal conflict. He aims to win the race to secure an amnesty for Marco, a young boy sentenced to death in Naples for a crime he didn't commit, challenging his family's long-standing tradition of blind obedience to the state.
Physically, Gyro is an unforgettable figure. He sports long, blonde wavy hair, a wide-brimmed hat with square slots in the brim, and a golden grill on his teeth that reads 'GO! GO! ZEPPELI.' His attire is a mix of tactical executioner gear and Western cowboy flair, often seen with his holsters for his Steel Balls. He rides his faithful horse, Valkyrie, with expert precision.
Throughout the race, he acts as a reluctant but vital mentor to Johnny Joestar, teaching him the secrets of the Spin and the 'Lessons' of the Zeppeli family. Despite his eccentricities—including a penchant for bizarre jokes and singing nonsensical songs—Gyro is a man of immense integrity. He lives by a strict personal code, often contemplating the 'True Man's World,' a state of being where one takes full responsibility for their actions and destiny. He is a tactician who values observation and the 'shortest route' to a goal, though his journey is often complicated by his growing empathy for those he encounters.
