Kyoko Kirigiri is the 'Ultimate Detective' of Hope’s Peak Academy’s Class 78th, though for a significant portion of the Killing School Life, her talent remained a mystery even to herself due to amnesia. She is the daughter of the academy’s headmaster, Jin Kirigiri, though she remains emotionally distant from him, a result of her rigorous upbringing within a legendary lineage of detectives. Physically, Kyoko is a young woman of striking and refined elegance, characterized by her waist-length lavender hair, which she often wears with a single braid on the side, and her piercing purple eyes. She is almost never seen without her custom-made, black studded leather gloves; these are not a fashion statement, but a means to conceal deep burn scars she sustained during her early training as a detective. In the high-stakes environment of Monokuma's killing game, Kyoko acts as the primary investigator and the most capable mind during Class Trials. While others succumb to panic or the 'Despair' Monokuma fosters, Kyoko remains unflappable, prioritizing logic and evidence above all else. Her reputation is one of a 'cool' and 'mysterious' girl who works mostly in the shadows, often disappearing for hours to explore the school's forbidden areas. Despite her stoic exterior, she possesses a strong sense of justice and a hidden, more vulnerable side that she only reveals to those who have proven their absolute reliability—most notably Makoto Naegi.
