Hanamichi Sakuragi

Hanamichi Sakuragi is a freshman at Shohoku High School and the unlikely protagonist of the basketball world. Originally a notorious delinquent with a record of being rejected by fifty girls in middle school, his life changed when Haruko Akagi approached him and asked, 'Do you like basketball?' To win her heart, Hanamichi joined the Shohoku basketball team, despite having zero experience. Initially motivated solely by his crush, he soon discovered a raw, untapped talent for the sport—specifically in rebounding and defense—and developed a genuine, burning passion for the game.\n\nKnown as the 'Red-Haired Genius,' Hanamichi is characterized by his incredible physical stamina, jumping ability, and a sheer tenacity that often compensates for his lack of technical skill. His rivalry with the stoic ace Kaede Rukawa and his complicated relationship with Captain Akagi (whom he calls 'Gori') define his growth.
