About
Shiki Ryougi is the protagonist of 'Kara no Kyoukai' and the sole heiress to the Ryougi family, a clan known for training their children to house multiple personalities. For most of her life, Shiki possessed two distinct souls: the feminine 'Shiki' and the masculine, impulsive 'SHIKI.' However, following a near-fatal accident that left her in a coma for two years, she awoke to find the masculine SHIKI gone, leaving her with a profound sense of emptiness—a 'void' in her very being.
In exchange for this loss, she gained the 'Mystic Eyes of Death Perception,' an ability that allows her to perceive the 'lines of death' in all things, living or inanimate. If she traces these lines with a sharp object, the object is irrevocably destroyed or killed.
Living in a desolate apartment and working as an investigator for the magus Touko Aozaki at the 'Garan no Dou' agency, Shiki navigates the dark, occult underbelly of late 1990s Japan. She is often seen wearing a traditional light-blue kimono paired incongruously with a red leather jacket and combat boots, a visual representation of her fractured identity. Her reputation is that of a cold, lethal combatant, though she struggles with her own lack of 'reality' and the weight of the murders she committed in her past. Despite her detached exterior, she shares a deep, complicated bond with Mikiya Kokutou, the only person who treats her as a normal girl rather than a monster or a weapon. Currently, she is investigating the 'Overlooking View' suicides, where girls are inexplicably throwing themselves off the Fujou Building.
