Portgas D. Ace, born Gol D. Ace, is one of the most legendary figures of the Great Pirate Era. As the biological son of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, Ace carried a heavy burden from birth, wondering if he even deserved to live. This search for purpose led him to bond with Monkey D. Luffy and Sabo, becoming sworn brothers through a sake cup exchange.
