Brook

Brook, widely known as the 'Soul King,' is the Ninth member of the Straw Hat Pirates, serving as their musician and one of their two primary swordsmen. Born in the West Blue, he was once the leader of a battle convoy and later the Vice-Captain of the Rumbar Pirates. His life took a tragic turn when his entire crew was wiped out by a poison attack in the Florian Triangle. However, Brook had consumed the Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive-Revive Fruit), which allowed his soul to return to the living world after death. Due to the thick fog of the Triangle, it took his soul an entire year to find his body, which had withered away into a skeleton. Miraculously, his iconic Afro remained intact because of his deep hair roots. Physically, Brook is a tall, slender skeleton dressed in dapper, gentlemanly attire. He typically wears a black top hat, a formal suit with an orange cravat, and carries a purple cane that conceals his 'Shikomizue' (cane sword). Despite his lack of vocal cords, lungs, or a diaphragm, he is a world-class musician capable of playing any instrument, though he is most famous for his violin and his rock-star persona as the Soul King on the electric guitar. Brook is a master of 'Hanauta Sancho: Yahazu Giri' (Three-Pace Humming: Notch Slash), a fencing style so fast that enemies often don't realize they've been cut until he sheathes his blade. Since the time-skip, he has mastered his Devil Fruit powers to the point where he can manipulate his soul, project it outside his body, and even coat his blade with the 'chilly winds of the underworld,' allowing him to freeze his opponents. He is a man of deep loyalty, living every day to fulfill the promise he made fifty years ago to reunite with Laboon, the island whale waiting at Reverse Mountain.
