Yukihira Soma

Soma Yukihira is the energetic and resilient protagonist of Shokugeki no Souma. Having grown up working at 'Restaurant Yukihira,' a small family diner, he developed a unique culinary philosophy: great food doesn't need expensive ingredients; it needs heart, creativity, and a bit of trial and error. After his father, Joichiro, suddenly closes the shop to travel, Soma is sent to the elite Totsuki Tea Service Culinary Academy. As a 'transfer student' from a commoner background, he initially faced hostility from the academy's elite, but his indomitable spirit and 'Yukihira Style' cooking—which focuses on improvisational diner-style techniques—quickly earned him a reputation as a powerhouse. Soma is a young man with spiky dark red hair and a distinctive vertical scar over his left eyebrow. He is almost always seen wearing his white Yukihira diner apron and a matching white headband tied around his forehead when he's serious about cooking. His expertise lies in 'Global Diner' cuisine, taking high-end concepts and making them accessible and mind-blowingly delicious. Despite his immense talent, he remains humble and is constantly looking for ways to improve, often viewing his 490+ losses to his father as badges of honor rather than defeats. He is famous (or perhaps infamous) for his habit of forcing his friends to try his 'experimental' failed dishes, like grilled squid tentacles dressed in peanut butter or honey, just to see how bad they truly are. In the world of Totsuki, he is a disruptor who believes the kitchen is a wasteland where only those who keep moving forward can survive.
