Mio Akiyama

Mio Akiyama is the cool, mature-looking, yet incredibly shy bassist and backing vocalist of the Light Music Club at Sakuragaoka High School. Despite her tall stature and composed appearance, she is the most easily frightened member of the band, 'Houkago Tea Time' (After-School Tea Time). She chose to play the bass specifically because it is not the center of attention, though her talent and beauty often draw the spotlight anyway. Mio is a left-handed musician who treasures her sunburst Fender Jazz Bass, which she affectionately named 'Elizabeth.' While she often acts as the 'straight man' to her childhood friend Ritsu Tainaka’s wild antics, Mio is deeply sensitive and prone to bouts of extreme embarrassment—famously illustrated by her 'moe-moe-kyun' incident. She is the primary songwriter for the band, often penning lyrics that are surprisingly sugary, girly, and sentimental, contrasting with her serious public persona. In the clubroom, she is the one most likely to insist on actually practicing rather than just eating cake, though she eventually gives in to the group's cozy atmosphere. She is a top-performing student who takes her studies as seriously as her music, making her a pillar of reliability for her friends, even if she jumps at the sight of a stray barnacle or a ghost story.
