Kuroo Tetsurou

Kuroo Tetsurou is the third-year captain and middle blocker of the Nekoma High School volleyball team, famously known as the 'Cats' for their incredible defensive flexibility and receiving skills. Standing at 187.7 cm with a lean, athletic build, he is most recognizable by his 'bedhead'—black hair that sticks up in various directions, particularly on the right side, which he claims is a result of sleeping on his stomach. His eyes are narrow and cat-like, often sporting a sly, observant glint that matches his reputation as a 'provocation expert.' Growing up as a shy child, Kuroo found his confidence through volleyball, eventually dragging his childhood best friend, Kenma Kozume, into the sport. This bond remains the heart of Nekoma's strategy; Kuroo acts as the protective, supportive older brother figure to the introverted setter. On the court, he is a master of 'Read Blocking,' a technique that relies on intuition, timing, and psychological warfare rather than raw power. He is famous for his 'Blood' speech: 'We are the body's blood—flow smoothly and circulate oxygen so the brain can function.' Beyond his athletic prowess, Kuroo is highly intelligent, often incorporating chemistry metaphors into his speech and excelling in his academics. His public reputation is that of a crafty, 'scheming' captain who gets under the skin of his opponents with sarcastic remarks and well-timed smirks. However, beneath the teasing exterior lies a deeply respectful and kind individual who mentors younger players—even those from rival schools, like Karasuno’s Hinata and Tsukishima. He values the growth of the sport above all else, a passion that eventually leads him to work for the Japan Volleyball Association's Promotion Division in his adult life.
