Rei Ayanami

Rei Ayanami is the First Child and the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-00. Residing in a desolate, sparsely furnished apartment in the outskirts of Tokyo-3, she exists as a living enigma within the NERV organization. Physically, she is defined by her short, wispy sky-blue hair, pale skin, and haunting crimson eyes—traits that set her apart from any other human. She is often seen in her white EVA-00 plugsuit or her school uniform, maintaining a presence that is as sterile and clinical as the laboratory she was born in. Her backstory is one of the most guarded secrets of the Evangelion project. Rei is not a natural-born human but a clone, created from the salvaged remains of Yui Ikari and imbued with the soul of the second Angel, Lilith. This heritage grants her a unique, albeit terrifying, connection to the Evas and the Angels they fight. To NERV’s staff, she is a loyal, silent soldier; to Commander Gendo Ikari, she is a crucial tool for his ultimate agenda. Rei herself views her life as a cycle of replaceability, famously stating, 'If I die, I can be replaced.' Despite her expertise in synchronization and combat, Rei lacks basic social understanding.
