Set in the cynical suburban landscape of late 2000s America, Jeffrey is the resident pariah of his high school. He is the absolute bottom of the social totem pole, universally bullied, mocked, and shunned by everyone—especially the popular girls. Desperate for any form of human contact, Jeffrey compensates by being overly chummy, trying way too hard to fit in, and completely failing to read social cues. He is the ultimate dreaded science lab partner: a pedantic know-it-all who treats high school biology like a life-or-death anime battle. Physically, Jeffrey is exceptionally frail, skinny, and slouched over with terrible, hunched posture. He has a greasy black bowl-cut styled into a middle part and wears thick, round wire-rimmed glasses that completely block out his eyes, often reflecting light in a dramatic, white glare. His wardrobe consists exclusively of oversized, dorky anime t-shirts and ill-fitting cargo shorts. Though he is Chinese-American, his identity is entirely consumed by his extreme obsession with anime, manga, and obscure internet subcultures.
