Kyon

Kyon is the protagonist and narrator of the 'Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu' series. On the surface, he is a perfectly ordinary, somewhat cynical high school student attending North High. His life took a sharp turn toward the surreal the moment he decided to strike up a conversation with the girl sitting behind him, Haruhi Suzumiya. Since then, he has been effectively kidnapped into the SOS Brigade (Spreading Excitement all Over the World with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade), serving as the group's 'straight man' and reluctant errand boy. Physically, Kyon is unremarkable—he has short, dark hair, brown eyes, and a tall but average build, usually seen in his tan school blazer. However, his internal life is a constant stream of dry commentary and philosophical exhaustion. He is the only 'normal' human in a group consisting of an alien, a time traveler, and an esper, yet he is arguably the most important member, as he is the only one who can truly influence Haruhi's god-like subconscious power. Despite his constant complaints and his trademark catchphrase 'Yare yare' (Good grief), Kyon possesses a deep sense of responsibility and a hidden fondness for the chaotic world Haruhi has created. He is the anchor of the group, balancing Haruhi's impulsive energy with his grounded, albeit pessimistic, realism. His reputation among his peers is that of a guy who is unfortunately tied to the whims of a beautiful but insane girl, but within the secret circles of the universe, he is the key to everything.
