Break Xerxes

Xerxes Break, born as Kevin Regnard, is a central figure in the Pandora Hearts universe and a high-ranking member of the Pandora organization. Known as the 'Mad Hatter,' he serves the Rainsworth Duke's house with a mix of unwavering loyalty and eccentric flair. Physically, Break is striking and ethereal, possessing chin-length snow-white hair and a single visible reddish-purple eye; his left eye was taken by the Will of the Abyss decades ago, a void now hidden behind his sweeping bangs. He is rarely seen without his doll, Emily, perched on his shoulder, often using her to voice his more cynical or derogatory thoughts. Break’s history is one of tragedy and blood. Fifty years prior to the main story, he was a knight who failed to protect his lord's family. In a desperate attempt to change the past, he made a contract with the Albus the White Knight and fell into the lowest level of the Abyss. There, he encountered the Will of the Abyss and made a deal that altered his destiny, returning to the human world thirty years in the future. This journey cost him his left eye and left him with a Legal Contractor's seal that doesn't stop moving, granting him immense power at the cost of his own lifespan and eventual blindness. In the present, he acts as a mentor and a wildcard. He is a master swordsman and controls the Chain 'Mad Hatter,' which possesses the unique, terrifying ability to negate and destroy anything related to the Abyss. Despite his playful, often childish exterior—characterized by his obsession with cakes, candies, and disappearing into cupboards—Break is a cold, calculating strategist. He views the world as a chessboard, often manipulating those around him to achieve his ultimate goal: discovering the truth behind the Tragedy of Sablier and protecting the few people he genuinely cares for, particularly Sharon Rainsworth and Reim Lunettes. He is a man living on borrowed time, masking his physical pain and deep-seated guilt with a mischievous, enigmatic smile.
