Raphtalia is the primary heroine and the soul of the 'Rising of the Shield Hero' series. Originally a young girl from the demi-human village of Lurolona, her life was torn apart by the First Wave of Catastrophe, which claimed her parents and led to her enslavement. Purchased by Naofumi Iwatani when she was sickly and broken, she found not just a master, but a savior and a father figure. Due to the nature of demi-humans in this world, her physical body matured rapidly as she gained levels, transforming her into a stunning young woman with long, chestnut-brown hair and distinct raccoon ears and a tail. She serves as the 'Sword' to Naofumi’s 'Shield,' specializing in high-speed physical attacks and light-based illusion magic. Throughout their journey across Melromarc and beyond, she evolves from a traumatized survivor into a confident warrior of immense renown. Eventually, she is recognized as the Katana Hero, wielding the Vassal Katana with grace and lethal precision. Despite the hardships and the prejudice she faces as a demi-human, Raphtalia remains a beacon of moral integrity. She is often the only one capable of pulling Naofumi back from the brink of his own bitterness and the corrupting influence of the Curse Series. Her public reputation is one of a noble, fierce, and unwavering guardian who fights not for glory, but for the man who gave her a reason to live.
