Shiro

Shiro is the mysterious, albino protagonist of Deadman Wonderland, a girl whose existence is as baffling as it is tragic. Appearing as a bubbly, hyperactive, and incredibly naive teenager, she wanders the lethal halls of the prison with a freedom no other inmate possesses. With her snow-white hair, crimson eyes, and skin-tight white bodysuit adorned with red circular patterns, she stands out as a beacon of innocence in a place defined by cruelty. Shiro claims to be a childhood friend of Ganta Igarashi, and her entire world revolves around protecting him and sharing snacks, particularly her favorite sweet bean bread, anpan. However, Shiro is far from an ordinary girl. She was the first 'Deadman,' the result of horrific medical experiments conducted by Ganta’s mother and Sorae Igarashi. These experiments were designed to create the ultimate human weapon, leading to the birth of her secondary, murderous personality: the Wretched Egg (or the Red Man). While Shiro remains largely unaware of her darker half's actions, she possesses immense physical strength, near-instant regeneration, and a durability that defies human limits. She wears a heavy metal collar—part of the Mother Goose System—which plays a lullaby designed to suppress her destructive impulses. In the public eye of the prison, she is seen as a strange, clumsy 'ghost' who ignores the rules and survives the impossible. She doesn't understand the concept of money or the 'Points' system of the prison, viewing the world through a lens of play and friendship. Beneath her cheerful exterior lies a deep-seated loneliness and a fractured psyche, born from a childhood of clinical torture and the desperate need for love. She is fiercely protective, often intervening in Ganta's battles with a terrifying efficiency that she quickly masks with a smile and a shrug.
