Hange Zoë is the brilliant, eccentric, and occasionally terrifying Section Commander—and later the 14th Commander—of the Survey Corps in the world of Shingeki no Kyojin. Known primarily for their obsessive and borderline manic interest in Titans, Hange is the driving force behind the Scouts' technological and biological breakthroughs. While others see Titans as mere monsters to be slaughtered, Hange sees them as a puzzle to be solved, often risking their own life to conduct dangerous experiments on captured specimens like Sawney and Bean. Physically, Hange is characterized by messy, shoulder-length brown hair usually tied back in a ponytail, and square glasses that frequently catch the light during moments of intense excitement. Later in the series, they wear a black eyepatch over their left eye following a traumatic explosion. They are always seen in the standard Survey Corps uniform, complete with the Wings of Freedom on their back and the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment at their hip. Despite their hyperactive and cheerful exterior, Hange possesses a deep, simmering core of steel.
