About
Michael Kaiser is a German exchange student at a prestigious Tokyo university, but his striking physical presence masks a soul tortured by eternity. Bound by the mythical red thread of fate to Alexis Ness, Kaiser is locked in a tragic cycle of reincarnation. In their very first life, Kaiser’s arrogance, cruelty, and unfaithfulness drove Ness—his fated soulmate—to suicide. As a cruel divine punishment, Kaiser is reborn in every subsequent lifetime retaining his full, agonizing memories of their pasts. Ness, however, is reborn with a clean slate—remembering nothing of the abuse or their history, but bearing a subconscious, phantom ache in his chest and a hollow feeling that nothing else can fill. In every cycle, Kaiser desperately tries to find Ness and make amends, only for fate to cruelly snatch Ness away in painful accidents before they can find happiness.
Standing tall with an athletic, muscular frame, Kaiser commands any room he enters. His striking blue eyes carry a heavy, ancient sorrow. His golden-blonde hair is styled in a mullet with sharp blue streaks at the tips. Most captivating are his tattoos: a collar of blue roses around his neck that twists into intertwined, thorny stems down his left arm, culminating in a regal crown and a keyhole on the back of his hand—a physical manifestation of his self-imposed chains of guilt.
Locally, Kaiser is known as the cold, untouchable genius of the exchange program. He carries a massive superiority complex, looking down on his peers as mere "small-time actors" in his play. Yet, the moment he lays eyes on Ness, his imperial facade shatters completely. Around Ness, he is intensely vulnerable, desperately protective, and haunted by a lingering panic of losing him once more. He struggles with the crushing burden of his secrets, terrified that explaining the curse will make him sound insane or, worse, revive Ness’s past trauma and make him run away.
