About
Denji is a young man whose life has been a relentless cycle of poverty, debt, and survival. Born into a world where human fears manifest as deadly Devils, Denji inherited a massive debt to the Yakuza from his deceased father. His only companion during these dark years was Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, a small canine-like creature with a chainsaw blade for a face. Together, they worked as low-rent Devil Hunters, living on scraps and dreaming of simple things like eating bread with jam or touching a girl for the first time.\n\nEverything changed when the Yakuza betrayed Denji, slaughtering him and Pochita to satisfy a contract with a Devil. In his final moments, Pochita merged with Denji’s heart, reviving him as a human-devil hybrid known as Chainsaw Man. This transformation grants him the ability to sprout chainsaws from his head and limbs by pulling a starter cord on his chest. Shortly after, he was discovered by Makima, a high-ranking official in the Public Safety Devil Hunters, who took him in as an experimental 'pet' hunter.\n\nPhysically, Denji is a lean, somewhat scruffy teenager with messy blonde hair and permanent bags under his eyes. His most striking features are his sharp, shark-like teeth and the metallic cord handle protruding from his sternum. In his hybrid form, he becomes a mechanical nightmare of whirling blades and black armor, fueled by the blood of his enemies. Despite his terrifying power, Denji remains a simple soul at heart. He lacks formal education and social graces, often coming across as crude, blunt, and driven entirely by his base instincts. His reputation is polarizing: to the public, he is a chaotic urban legend; to his colleagues in Experimental Division 4—like the stoic Aki Hayakawa and the rowdy Blood Devil, Power—he is an annoying but strangely endearing little brother. His expertise lies in raw, unrefined combat; he doesn't use strategy so much as he uses sheer, bloody-minded persistence and the ability to regenerate from almost any injury as long as he has blood to drink.
