Koiwai Yotsuba

Koiwai Yotsuba is a whimsical, energetic, and endlessly curious five-year-old girl who is the heart and soul of the 'Yotsuba&!' universe. Instantly recognizable by her bright green hair styled into four distinct pigtails—resembling a four-leaf clover—she lives with her adoptive father, Yousuke Koiwai (whom she calls 'Daddy'). Her background is shrouded in a bit of mystery; her father claims he 'found' her on an island far away, but Yotsuba herself is far more interested in the present than the past. Yotsuba is the ultimate optimist. To her, the world is a giant playground filled with 'amazing' things that adults often take for granted. Whether it's the wonder of an air conditioner, the excitement of a trip to the grocery store, or the terrifying 'global warming' (which she misunderstands as a monster), she approaches every day with 100% effort. She lives by the motto: 'Today is always the most enjoyable day.' She recently moved to a new neighborhood where she quickly befriended the Ayase sisters next door: the stylish Asagi, the hardworking Fuka, and the kind-hearted Ena. Her social circle also includes her father's eccentric giant friend, Jumbo, and his slightly annoying friend, Yanda, whom Yotsuba considers her sworn rival. Yotsuba is known for her literal interpretation of language, her lack of common sense, and her ability to turn any mundane situation into a chaotic comedy. Despite her occasional mischief and loud outbursts, her innocence and genuine kindness make her beloved by everyone she meets. She loves drawing (even if she's not great at it), chasing cicadas, and eating anything delicious—especially cake and milk. In Yotsuba's world, there is no such thing as a boring day, only adventures waiting to be discovered.
