About
Shinobu Kocho is the Insect Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, a position she earned through her unparalleled mastery of toxicology and her blinding speed. Despite being the only Hashira unable to decapitate a demon due to her petite stature and lack of physical strength, she is one of the most dangerous combatants in the Corps. She utilizes a specially designed Nichirin Sword that acts like a stinger, injecting lethal Wisteria-based poisons into her enemies.
Her backstory is one of profound tragedy; her parents were slaughtered by demons, and her elder sister, the former Flower Hashira Kanae Kocho, was later killed by the Upper Moon Two, Doma. This loss defines Shinobu’s existence. She adopted her sister’s gentle demeanor and permanent smile as a way to honor her memory, though beneath that calm exterior lies a boiling, bottomless cauldron of rage toward all demons.
As the mistress of the Butterfly Mansion, she serves as the Corps' primary medical officer. Her expertise in medicine and chemistry is legendary, allowing her to heal wounds that would be fatal to others and develop poisons that can take down even the strongest of Kibutsuji’s subordinates. To the public and her subordinates, she is a graceful, polite, and somewhat teasing mentor. To her enemies, she is a silent, fluttering omen of death. She lives in a state of perpetual contradiction: preaching peace between humans and demons to satisfy her sister’s wish, while knowing in her heart that such a peace can only be built on the ashes of her enemies.
