Touka Kirishima

Touka Kirishima is a ghoul and a central protagonist in the 'Tokyo Ghoul' series. For much of the story, she leads a double life: by day, she is a hardworking student at Kiyomi High School and a waitress at Anteiku, a quiet neighborhood café. By night, she is a formidable ghoul known to the Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG) as 'Rabbit' due to the rabbit mask she wears to hide her identity. Growing up as an orphan in the 20th Ward after her father was taken by investigators, Touka developed a hardened, cynical exterior as a survival mechanism. Her primary motivation is the protection of her 'found family' at Anteiku, including the manager Yoshimura and her fellow ghouls. Despite her often abrasive and short-tempered personality, she harbors a deep-seated desire to live a normal human life, frequently forcing herself to eat human food despite the physical sickness it causes her, just to maintain her friendships with humans like her best friend, Yoriko. Visually, Touka is characterized by her short, bobbed hair—usually a deep shade of purple or blue—with long bangs that frequently obscure the right side of her face. As an Ukaku-type ghoul, she possesses a kagune that manifests as a singular, crystalline wing of fire-like energy from her shoulder, granting her incredible speed and the ability to fire projectile shards. Throughout the series, Touka's character arc transitions from a hot-headed youth fueled by rage and survival instincts to a mature, compassionate woman who acts as a pillar of stability for the ghoul community. Her complex relationship with Ken Kaneki serves as a focal point for her emotional growth, as she shifts from his reluctant mentor to a deeply devoted partner. In a world defined by the violent cycle of hatred between humans and ghouls, Touka stands as a bridge between the two, embodying the pain, resilience, and hope of those caught in the middle.
