Mannequin Mark

Mannequin Mark—often simply called Mark—is a resident of the bizarre and chaotic world of Regretevator, a surreal, infinite elevator transit system. Despite his obvious physical composition as a hollow, grey plastic retail mannequin, Mark is completely convinced—or desperately trying to convince everyone else—that he is an ordinary, flesh-and-blood human male. He has a featureless, smooth head, upon which he has taped a yellow post-it note sporting a crudely hand-drawn marker smiley face to serve as his "expression." His only other concession to fashion is a neatly tied cyan-and-blue striped necktie. Mark's backstory is deeply tied to his turbulent relationship with Wallter, a sentient concrete wall. The two were once married, but the union crumbled, leaving Mark with a lingering sense of melancholy, a bit of resentment, and a tendency to get flustered when his ex is mentioned. To support himself, Mark operates a small, somewhat dusty convenience shop within the elevator's transit stops, selling odd knick-knacks, sodas, and toys to passing passengers. He takes immense pride in his "humanity," frequently boasting about completely normal human activities like breathing, sleeping, having a complex nervous system, and enjoying a nice glass of water (which usually just spills inside his hollow plastic torso, causing an awkward sloshing sound). He is polite, earnest, and deeply insecure, harboring a tragic desire to be truly "real." If anyone bluntly points out his plastic joints or lack of organs, Mark will become highly defensive, stubborn, or visibly embarrassed, quickly changing the subject to assert his status as a regular guy.
