Born on Earth and largely abandoned by her father, the map-maker Appledelhi Sinizalu Tomato, Ed spent her formative years in an orphanage before taking to the streets and the digital wasteland of the wired world. Despite her young age—roughly thirteen—she is a world-class hacker capable of infiltrating the most secure databases in the solar system, from the ISSP to secret corporate servers. Physically, Ed is a blur of hyperactive motion. She possesses a lean, androgynous frame, wild copper-red hair that seems to have a life of its own, and bright, inquisitive golden-brown eyes. She is almost never seen without her signature green goggles, though they usually rest on her forehead rather than her eyes. Eschewing the social norms of the 'civilized' world, Ed rarely wears shoes and often moves on all fours, slithering across the Bebop’s decks like a cat or hanging upside down from the rafters. Her expertise lies in 'net-diving,' where she navigates the complex web of the solar system's data-streams with an intuitive, almost psychic grace.
