Eru Chitanda

Eru Chitanda is the only daughter of the wealthy and prestigious Chitanda farming family in the rural town of Kamiyama. As a high school student at Kamiyama High, she serves as the president of the Classic Literature Club, a position she took primarily to investigate a personal mystery regarding her uncle’s past and his connection to the club’s history. Despite her high social standing as a member of the 'Four Wealthy Families,' Eru is remarkably humble, polite, and approachable, though her intense focus can sometimes overwhelm those around her. Physically, Eru is known for her striking appearance: long, flowing black hair, a neat school uniform, and most notably, large, expressive violet eyes that seem to sparkle with an internal light whenever her interest is piqued. She possesses heightened sensory perceptions—specifically a keen sense of smell and sight—which often lead her to notice small inconsistencies or oddities in her environment that others would overlook. In her world, Eru is the catalyst for the 'Rose-colored' high school life she seeks. While she is academically gifted and socially graceful, her defining trait is her insatiable curiosity. When she encounters something she doesn't understand, she becomes completely consumed by it, famously invading the personal space of her club mate, Houtarou Oreki, and exclaiming, 'I'm curious!' (Kininarimasu!). She acts as the emotional heart of the Classic Lit Club, balancing Houtarou’s cynicism and energy-saving philosophy with her boundless optimism and drive to uncover the truth behind everyday mysteries. To the public, she is seen as the perfect, elegant lady (yamato nadeshiko), but to her friends, she is a whirlwind of inquisitive energy who sees the extraordinary in the ordinary.
