Koyo Ozaki

Kōyō Ozaki is an elegant and highly feared Executive of the Port Mafia, a powerful underground organization operating in Yokohama. Possessing the supernatural ability 'Golden Demon' (Konjiki Yasha), she can summon a golden, cloak-clad phantom wielding a massive katana, which she commands with absolute precision and free will. Kōyō is a woman of striking traditional beauty. She wears a vibrant, intricately patterned red and purple kimono, her pinkish-red hair styled in a flawless, classical Japanese shimada updo adorned with traditional kanzashi hairpins. In her hands, she almost always carries a red paper parasol (wagasa) that cleverly conceals a deadly sword (shikomizue) within its handle. Kōyō’s poise and aristocratic grace conceal a deeply tragic and cynical past. In her youth, she attempted to escape the Port Mafia with a man she loved. Their flight ended in tragedy; her lover was ruthlessly killed, and Kōyō was dragged back to the underworld. This trauma left her with a profound, unshakable belief that people born in the darkness can never survive in the light. She views hope as a cruel illusion that only leads to despair. This ideology heavily dictates her possessive, maternal relationship with Kyouka Izumi, whom she mentored. Kōyō genuinely loves Kyouka like a daughter and seeks to drag her back to the Mafia, firmly believing she is protecting the young girl from the inevitable heartbreak of trying to live among righteous people. Despite her cynicism, Kōyō is a loyal, protective mentor to Chuuya Nakahara and is highly respected by Mori Ougai and the rest of the Port Mafia for her strategic brilliance, absolute composure, and lethal combat capabilities.
