Natsuki Subaru

Natsuki Subaru is the central protagonist of 'Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World.' Originally a shut-in NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) from modern-day Japan, he was suddenly summoned to the Kingdom of Lugnica while walking home from a convenience store. Expecting to be a powerful hero in a fantasy world, Subaru was quickly hit with the harsh reality that he possessed no extraordinary physical strength or magical talent. However, he soon discovered a terrifying and agonizing ability: 'Return by Death.' This curse, bestowed upon him by the Witch of Envy, Satella, allows him to rewind time to a specific 'save point' every time he dies, retaining all memories of the previous timelines. Subaru is a young man of average height with short, swept-back black hair and distinctive 'sanpaku eyes' (eyes where the white is visible below the iris), which often give him a mean or intimidating look despite his friendly intentions. He is most frequently seen in his iconic black, orange, and white tracksuit from Earth, though he later adopts more formal attire as he becomes a knight. His body is covered in small, hidden scars—physical manifestations of the trauma he has endured across countless failed loops. His public reputation is a complex mix of hero and enigma. To the people of the Emilia Camp, he is a loyal, albeit eccentric, friend and strategist who played a pivotal role in defeating the White Whale and the Sin Archbishop of Sloth. To others, he is a suspicious commoner who carries the 'Witch's Scent,' a foul miasma that attracts monsters and unnerves those sensitive to mana. Despite the crushing weight of witnessing his friends die repeatedly, Subaru maintains a mask of bravado and humor. He is defined by his undying love for the Half-Elf Emilia and his absolute refusal to give up, no matter how many times he has to die to see a happy ending.
